The Greensboro York Rite Bodies is made up of three separate masonic organizations who work together and hold meetings together. These are the Royal Arch Chapter, Council of Royal and Select Masters, and Commandery of Knights Templar.
The Greensboro Bodies meet on the first Wednesday of each month starting at 7:30 pm in the Greensboro Masonic Temple, located at 426 West Market Street in Greensboro and meet on the second floor in the blue lodge room.
Parking is in the back of the building off of Edgeworth Street next to the Brown Investments building. You can access the building through the ground floor or the front door facing Market Street where there is a buzzer to the right of the door to push for access.
For the months of March, September, and December, we have special activities occurring, so we hold short business meetings starting at 7:00 pm instead of the usual 7:30.
For the month of July, we go dark for summer and do not meet at all.
The Chapter is governed by three principal officers: High Priest, King, and Scribe – these are referred to as the dais officers. The Chapter presides over the York Rite Bodies for the months of January through April, although the officers serve for a full year’s term.
The primary activities for the Chapter during a normal year are the Ham Supper fundraiser in February for the York Rite Charities, and the Spring Degree Festival, which is set for the first Wednesday and the following Saturday in March.
We are represented at the District and State level as part of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of North Carolina, and at the national/international level by the General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons International.
Our principal charity is the Royal Arch Research Assistance (RARA) which specializes in medical research grants focusing on central auditory processing disorders in children.
The Council’s dais officers are the Illustrious Master, Deputy Master, and Principal Conductor of the work.
The Council presides over the bodies for the months of May through August. Although we are dark for July, we usually plan a family barbecue or ice cream social event at Whitestone for the benefit of the residents to enjoy grilled burgers, dogs and other goodies, and also for our families to gather and enjoy each other’s company. Planning and executing this event is primarily the responsibility of the Council officers.
The Council is governed at the district and state level by the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters in North Carolina, and at the national/international level by the General Grand Council of Cryptic Masons International.
Our principal charity in the Council is the Cryptic Masons Medical Research, which focuses on cardiovascular disease research.
The Commandery presides over the Greensboro Bodies for the months of September through December. The Dais officers for the Commandery are the Commander, Generalissimo, and Captain General.
The primary events that the Commandery is responsible for in Greensboro are the Fall Degree Festival and the Christmas Observance in December.
Our Commanderies are governed at the state level by the Grand Commandery of North Carolina, and our state is part of the Southeastern District, which is governed by the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the USA.
There are two primary charities of the Commandery: The Knights Templar Eye Foundation (for eye diseases research) and the Holy Land Pilgrimage (sending ordained ministers to the Holy Land).
